What is an Endodontist?

An endodontist is a dental specialist who has completed at least two additional years of advanced training beyond dental school. Endodontists specialize in diagnosing and treating diseases and injuries affecting the dental pulp, the tissues inside the tooth, and the surrounding structures.

Endodontists are specially trained to:

• Diagnose and treat dental pulp and root-related conditions.
• Diagnose complex tooth and facial pain.
• Perform routine and complex endodontic procedures, including root canal treatment and retreatment.

Your general dentist may refer you to an endodontist when a diagnosis is complex, symptoms are difficult to pinpoint, or specialized treatment is needed.
